I was sitting in Wetherspoons one lunchtime a while back and noticed that the family area was more crowded than usual, it seemed that there was every pushchair in Gosport parked in there. Fridays are generally busy in Wetherspoons but this particular Friday it just seemed busier than usual and because I happened to mention this fact on Face Book I was accused of being a grumpy old man.
All I did was mention an observation so how on earth does that innocuous remark deem me to be grumpy? Ah I know! It's because I just happen to be the wrong side of sixty so that, in most peoples eyes, automatically makes me grumpy. Wrong!
There are a lot of grumpy people in this world and they are usually people who are not satisfied with their shallow uneventful lives, people who expect things to be done for them rather than get off their backsides and make things happen in their favour. They are the grumpy ones! The ones that are indoctrinated by the media, that read tabloids, that are more entertained by TV adverts than TV programmes, that don't have a personal opinion about life, unfortunately there are just too many of these individuals in our society.
I love to people watch and I'm not really surprised that so many people look, sound and act like so many others and they probably don't even know them. If it's a case of, “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery” then its strange way of flattering someone. There are very few individual styled people in our society and those that are are normally ridiculed for being different. It's a natural thing to mimic, copy or simulate someone else, isn't that how our children learn from when they're babies? But why can't a person find his or hers own individuality without being looked on with derisive humour or contempt? Which kind of brings me back to the start of this particular blog.
Why can't a person observe and comment without being deemed grumpy? This is not a grumpy blog it's me making a comment on the ignorance of others. Grumpy old men and women are those who can't accept changes in their sad lives, they still live in the past refusing to accept modern technology or ideas instead of embracing all that's good in this world, besides the chances are that they were probably grumpy young people.
Just for the record I'm happy with my life, I have arthritis but I try not to let it get me down, I have almost everything I need, I have my friends and my family(and try not to let them get me down either...Lol) and I'm generally a cheerful person so how does grumpy come into it?

It's a fallacy that the world is worse now than it's ever been, every generation has had its cross to bear. We say our society is breaking down with a lack of respect and values but there have always been street gangs, there have always been corrupt politicians, there have always been unscrupulous business men and there will always be wars. Media communication is far better now than its ever been so everything is now reported in real time rather than days later and so the world has become smaller but there is still so much good around and it doesn't have to be something materialistic.
Friendship, a smile, laughter, helping someone far less able than yourself. Enjoy what you have and give thanks for what you have and if you're healthy thank your god whoever or whatever you deem it to be. Bloody hell this is sounding like sermon.............I think you get my drift though!
